Suehiro Maruo produces unsettling work which is at the same time graphically excellent. "Mr Arashi's Amazing Freak Show" concerns a young girl who is kidnapped and forced to travel with Mr Arashi and his freak show. The story is a mixture of surreal dream and horror nightmare and the subject matter seems uniquely Japanese. It would never be done in Britain or America.

"Planet of the Jap" is an alternative reality story inspired by Philip K Dick's "The Man in the High Castle" where the Japanese win the Second World War, ending with the execution of General Douglas Macarthur. It is hard to know whether there is genuine bitterness that Japan failed to win the war or whether it is a satire on Japanese character.
